One in every ten adults in Sri Lanka has diabetes while its symptoms are not always obvious, which makes it a difficult disease to detect early on. Uncontrolled diabetes could lead to complications such as heart attacks and strokes, kidney disease, neuropathy, retinopathy, ulcerations, amputations, and blindness.
